A JOURNAL SINCE 2005
5561
Named after the number of the house where I grew up in Chile. Personal stories, travel, product and AI, books, and a thank-you to every year since 2013.
Welcome to 5561CL
I went online back in 2005 to explore the exciting and ‘new’ world of blogs. What it started like a personal journal is now a full fletched website that I mainly use for professional purposes.
However, in 5561CL -the number of the house where I grew up in, back in Chile - I speak about more personal things, from my ‘thanks [insert year] series, to my travels around the world and certainly, some explorations around fintech, product management, real states or economics, all topics I’m very fond of.
With that being said, welcome to 5561CL a blog that contains personal stories dating back 2013, the year I moved to Milan to pursue my MBA
HBS Mastering Growth 2019 class notes
The first class was about Alibaba but most importantly it was about a competition to own the chinese market, the promised e-commerce land.
Leadership from below: The Ordinary Heroes of the Taj Hotel
A few days ago I watched “Hotel Mumbai” a film that depicts the awful events that happened 11 years ago [November 26th 2008] when a group of terrorists attacked several key parts of the city killing over 150 people.
10x times thinking
Many months ago I read Jocko Willing’s Extreme Ownership and I loved it. I really liked that simple, yet powerful idea of being in charge of your life.
Collection of great business advices
A collection of ideas, thoughts and insights I have collected over time.
#4 Keeping your competitive advantage: Cars
Recently, Elon Musk was visiting Chile and everyone were speculating about lithium and the next generation of Tesla motor’s batteries.
#3 Keeping your competitive advantage: delivery
The last entry on this series was about retail. This time, I’ll try to understand one of the most dynamic and ruthless industries: delivery.
#2 Keeping your competitive advantage: Retail
Big changes can come in small packages.
In the late 1800’s packed baking powder changed retail entirely.
#1 Keeping your competitive advantage
Ever since Christopher Columbus discovered America, Europe became “old”. For centuries, the so called first world has lead in every single industry we can think of. However, as time went by powerhouses like the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) have awakened and challenged the supremacy of Europe.
The concept of Extreme Ownership
One of the last good books I have read on management was High Output Management. One of the many principles described on the book was "extreme ownership", or why every manager is accountable for the output of his team.
Mis notas de High Output Management
Para mi, no hay mejor manera de procesar nueva información que escrbiéndola. Aquí, el resumen y comentarios de High Output Management. Libro que estoy poniéndo en practica en su totalidad.
Soft power to gain influence
A great episode from StartUp podcast about "Making China cool again" and a longread from The Guardian about branding countries
To expand a company: Foreign markets adventures
This year has been quite challenging. It was the first time I had the chance to help a company penetrating foreign markets, especially the US and Europe.
Strategy: Where and how to play
I’m always in for a good business book, specially when one of the protagonists was your professor. Filippo Passerini was one of the main executives for P&G. He lead the M&A with Gillette and brought new IT capabilities to the company.
The balance scorecard notes
You never sell what you're selling
Once you have uncover a problem and after a lot of work came up with a product or service to address it, you need to sell the hell out of that thing you have. I do not care what it is, you have to put it out there and compete.

The wisdom of R. Gopalakrishnan
Whilst in India, the biggest influence I had -apart from my professors Mr Sushil Kumar, Sameer Mathur or Rajeev Kumra- , was R. Gopalakrishnan, the legendary manager and scholar from Hindustan Unilever and Tata Sons.
